Devote Your Weekend to the Cause
Use your weekend wisely and throw together an impromptu Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser with your neighbors:
We all have piles of unwanted stuff just lying around the house collecting dust. Why not put it to good use? Rummage through the house on Saturday and encourage your neighbors to do the same at theirs. Pull together all the clothing your family no longer wears, toys the kids aged out of, books you’ve read so many times you could reiterate it word for word, appliances not used that are taking up precious counter and cabinet space, and anything else you just keep shuffling around the house to get it out of your way on a regular basis. The saying, “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” is true. Chances are, if you had it at one point, someone else might find a want or need for it at another and that will make for a successful fundraiser.
Even on short notice you can throw together a group yard sale that will be full of items that could potentially sell to raise money for breast cancer while bringing awareness to the cause. While you and your neighbors are collecting items to sell on Saturday, have the kiddies make “Yard Sale” signs with on large fluorescent pink (of course!) oak tag to hang throughout the neighborhood. Along with the necessary information like address and date (being that it’s impromptu that would be Sunday,) draw a Pink Ribbon and highlight that all the proceeds from the multifamily sale will go towards breast cancer research.
On Sunday, while the adults are busy with customers, put the kids to work selling cups of pink lemonade to increase the amount that will be donated to the cause. On a warm summer day, that lemonade will be sure to hit the spot for buyers and it will be a lesson to the kids on the importance of supporting a cause greater than them. At the end of the hardworking day, celebrate the fundraising sale with a simple neighborhood barbeque and bask with good feelings of giving back in your newly uncluttered homes.
